Lecture report / Nachlese Vortrag Wegrzce 19.1.2020

On January 19th, a meeting entitled “Under armor and in the field” took place in the “Old Forge” (the local cultural center in Węgrzce near Krakow). Dr. Filip Suchoń from the Cracow University of Technology, the OeGF member, lectured about the Austrian fortifications in Węgrzce.

Guests, among them the chairman of the Zielonki Commune Council, had the opportunity to see what the fortification ring of the Kraków Fortress looked like, and got to know about the construction and use of fortification facilities located in the village.
Til today, the following fortifications have survived: Werk Lysa Góra – at Forteczna Street (on the east side of the road to Warsaw), Einheitsfort Węgrzce – at Forteczna Street (on the west side of the road to Warsaw), Battery 1/Węgrzce – at Forteczna Street, Guardhouse “Warschauer Strasse” – at the intersection of Forteczna and Old Trackway Street. At the southern border of the village near Krakow, the Infantry rampart IS V/5 also has survived.

During the lecture also current issues were discussed. First of all, the consequences of current land use plans, as well as the sale fortification properties to private individuals.

Am 19. Januar fand im örtlichen Kulturzentrum in Węgrzce bei Krakau ein Vortrag mit dem Titel “Unter Panzer und auf dem Feld” statt. Dr. Filip Suchoń von der Technischen Universität Krakau und OeGF-Mitglied, referierte über die österreichischen Befestigungen in Węgrzce.

Die Gäste, darunter auch der Vorsitzende des Zielonki-Gemeinderats, erfuhren über das Aussehen des Festungsgürtels von Krakau sowie Informationen über den Bau und die Nutzung der Werke im Bereich des Ortes Węgrzce . Die erhaltenen Hauptbefestigungen in diesem Bereich sind die Werk Lysa Góra  und Węgrzce.

Während des Vortrages wurden auch aktuelle Themen besprochen. Primär die Konsequenzen aktueller Landnutzungspläne sowie der Verkauf von Festungsgrundstücken an Privatpersonen.
